AT HOME, ELSEWHERE
From Western denim and days indoors to Tokyo streets and summers by the water, a look through the RETRO21 collections reveals a recurring idea: feeling at ease while remaining distinctly yourself.
A faded pair of jeans. A knit worn close to the skin. A shirt that moves with the air. These familiar pieces take on a different character with each person who wears them. A sleeve pushed up, a change in proportion, a jacket left open: small decisions give a wardrobe its own rhythm. This relationship between clothing and the person inside it runs through RETRO21.
In Fall/Winter 2024, STATE OF TEXAS explored the vocabulary of Western dressing through denim, workwear jackets and chunky knits. The appeal lay in their recognizable shapes, textured surfaces and individual details. Alongside it, HOME ALONE turned toward a more private setting: the warmth of being indoors and the freedom to settle into your own space. The two themes brought different qualities into view—character and comfort, an outward presence and an inward sense of ease.
Spring/Summer 2025 carried that conversation into YOUNG LIFE. Openwork shirts, fitted knits and wide-leg trousers offered different ways to play with the relationship between fabric and the body. A DAY ON THE ISLAND took the wardrobe into sunlight, among waves, sand and palms. Knit cardigans, contrasting colors and short-sleeve shirts brought a relaxed, distinctly retro character to the holiday setting. The clothes left room for both movement and the pleasure of putting a look together.
For Fall/Winter 2025, TRAVEL WITH RETRO placed familiar pieces on the streets of Tokyo. Naturally faded denim, soft jacquard knits and workwear jackets became part of the city's everyday scenes. The wardrobe found expression through the way it was worn. RADIANCE & SERENITY offered a quieter perspective within the same season: warm light, familiar surroundings and the comfort of a moment to yourself. Travel and stillness shared a concern with finding your own pace.
EFFORTLESS CHIC, the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, brought greater focus to simple lines, comfortable fabrics and considered details. Its ease came through the balance of the clothes: how a silhouette sat, how a layer fell, how much space remained around the body. JUMP INTO SUMMER opened that feeling toward the sea. Cotton and linen, sunlight and salt air gave the capsule its lightness, carrying RETRO21's retro sensibility into long, unhurried days.
Fall/Winter 2026, SOFT & SHARP, brings these ideas into a closer relationship. Softness appears in touch, folds and layers; sharpness in a defined shoulder, a black leather jacket or a restrained contrast of color. Together, they make room for a person to feel comfortable and self-possessed at once. A relaxed silhouette can hold a clear attitude. A fitted piece can move naturally with the body.
Across these collections, certain elements keep returning: denim with a faded character, expressive knitwear, familiar shirts and the meeting of close and generous proportions. Different settings give them new possibilities. A piece can feel at home in the city, in a quiet room or somewhere unfamiliar, shaped by the combinations and habits of its wearer.
This is the thread connecting the RETRO21 archive: clothes that leave space for a life of your own. Seasons add new colors, textures and points of view. The personal choices—the way a sleeve is worn, a layer is added, a familiar piece is carried somewhere new—keep the story moving.
